About Devadawson (Poona thatha)
Capt. Devadawson had served in the British Indian Army in France. He used to tell me proudly that at parties with officers there would be over 200 Brits every one of them imbibing liquor while he was a proud Indian, and the only teetotaller!
He was a septuagenarian when I knew him. He would wake up early and go cycling to play Tennis regularly. Set in his ways, he brooked no nonsense. My mother Jane Wilfred called him "Chinniah"; she loved him and his wife dearly.
